Job Description

A leading acute care hospital located in central Connecticut is now seeking an experienced Nurse Educator Surgical Services to join their award-winning healthcare team!

This leading mid-sized community hospital offers comprehensive, patient-centered care across an approximately 150-bed acute care campus, featuring 24/7 emergency care, advanced surgery, heart and vascular services, orthopedics, women’s health and maternity, oncology, primary care, imaging and diagnostics, rehabilitation, wound care, and convenient telehealth and outpatient options. Known for quality and patient safety, it maintains respected accreditations and has earned multiple regional and national recognitions for patient experience and clinical outcomes, reflecting a steadfast commitment to compassionate service, modern technology, and coordinated care that keeps families healthy close to home.

The Nurse Educator Surgical Services plays a pivotal role in elevating perioperative quality, patient safety, and staff competency across the operating room, PACU, pre-op, and sterile processing environments by designing, delivering, and evaluating evidence-based clinical education. Daily responsibilities include conducting needs assessments; developing orientation and onboarding pathways for new hires and travelers; leading in-service training, skills labs, and simulation; performing competency validation and documentation in the LMS; coaching preceptors and supporting professional development and CE; rounding in the OR to provide real-time coaching on aseptic technique, surgical safety checklists, equipment use, and workflow; partnering with surgeons, anesthesia, and nurse leaders on policy updates, new technology rollouts, and pathway optimization; driving quality improvement projects tied to AORN standards, infection prevention, and regulatory readiness; tracking outcomes and education metrics; preparing staff for certifications (e.g., CNOR); and maintaining current learning resources, curricula, and teaching schedules. This role blends hands-on clinical presence with curriculum design, ensuring consistent adherence to best practices, streamlined processes, and exceptional patient outcomes within high-acuity Surgical Services settings.

The Surgical Service line delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care with expert surgeons, advanced anesthesia support, and state-of-the-art operating rooms designed for safety, efficiency, and comfort. Offering a wide range of procedures— including minimally invasive and laparoscopic options—patients can access general surgery, orthopedic (including joint and sports-related procedures), colorectal, urologic, gynecologic, ENT, breast, and outpatient endoscopy services, with both same-day and inpatient care available. A coordinated continuum supports every step of the journey, from pre-admission testing and patient education to personalized pain management, Enhanced Recovery–inspired pathways, and seamless post-operative follow-up and rehabilitation. With robust infection prevention practices, modern technology, and a skilled perioperative team, these surgical programs focus on reduced complications, faster recovery, and excellent outcomes—bringing high-quality surgical care close to home.

Discover the appeal of living in central Connecticut, where a welcoming small-city vibe meets affordable housing, family-friendly neighborhoods, and abundant parks, trails, and recreation. Residents enjoy reputable schools, quality healthcare, diverse shopping and dining, and a vibrant calendar of cultural events and seasonal festivals. With a commuter-friendly location near major highways and regional employers in manufacturing, healthcare, and tech, this area blends New England charm with modern convenience, offering a balanced quality of life and easy access to nearby cities, lakes, and outdoor adventures.

This organization is prepared to offer a competitive compensation package including industry leading benefits and continued growth opportunities!
