The Department of Developmental Services (Department) is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join their team at the Stabilization Training Assistance Reintegration (STAR) Acute Crisis Homes. As a member of the STAR team, you will work to provide support to individuals with developmental disabilities during times of acute crisis. This role requires individuals who are passionate about person-centered care, and who are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities. STAR currently provides assistance to adolescents (11-17 years old) and adults (18 years of age and older) who are receiving regional center services. The STAR homes are four to five bed homes in community settings (Vacaville, Springville, and Costa Mesa).

This recruitment is being conducted in anticipation of budget approval. Final hiring is contingent upon approval of funding. Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave Program.You will find additional information about the job in the .
Travel up to 300 miles per day to locations throughout California, including North STAR (Vacaville), Central Valley STAR (Porterville), South STAR (Costa Mesa), Headquarters (Sacramento), Canyon Springs Community Facility (Cathedral City) and other Department locations. Travel may require overnight stays. Works extended hours or varying shifts specific to operational needs. This position provides both direct in-person services and telehealth services to all STAR locations.
Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSE: Current license as a Registered Nurse in California and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Registered Nurses. As a licensed professional, you are required to maintain a valid license and are expected to always comply with all of the rules of professional conduct within your licensure. Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate.

Knowledge of : Cultural sensitivity, positive behavioral support, trauma-informed care, coaching skills training, and person-centered practices. Empathetic understanding of individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, navigating situations with tact, patience, alertness, and emotional stability. May practice under California’s Nurse Practitioner 103 or 104 pathway. The Nurse Practitioner 103 practices under standardized procedures in collaboration with a licensed physician and surgeon, in accordance with California Business and Professions Code §2725.
Ability to : Work with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and severe behavioral conditions, including aggression, self-injurious behavior, and psychiatric symptoms. Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during physically, mentally, and emotionally stressful situations.
